SelectEV - Compare Electric Vehicles

Welcome to SelectEV.tech

"May you live in interesting times" goes the old curse/blessing. SelectEV is here as a new community to document the amazing transition to EVs that is happening all around us in Australia.

It’s a bit of a cliché to compare the transition from horse and buggy in the early 20th century to the current transition from ICE (internal combustion engines) to electric vehicles.

Still, those must have been interesting times. Cobblestone and dirt roads covered in manure (and presumably flies), inexorably giving way to the thrum of mechanical beasts bouncing and beeping down pathways that were designed to give traction to four hooved legs, not spinning rubber tyres.

To live in those times, over the span of just a couple of decades, and to see a primary mode of transport completely replaced, must have been enough to make ones head spin.

We are now in the middle of our own transition. I’m not going to pretend that it’s as great a change as that from horse to automobile, but the EV brings its own head spinning changes. No more, the diesel punk wet dream of oily cogs and pistons exploding under the bonnet. Gone, the pumping of volatile, flammable liquid into reservoirs that are carried along as we travel, like a Damocles hand grenade

I’m excited to be living in these interesting times. I get to experience this transition and participate in its completion. And I have no doubt, it will be complete. Within a couple of decades there will still be piston driven cars, but they will be curiosities - like when you see a horse trotting beside the road. You might point it out to the kids - “look guys, what a beauty - 8 pistons in that one.”

“But Dad, why’s it making that noise - and what’s that hoop he’s holding in his hands?”

“That’s called a steering wheel, kids.”

(OK, it might be a few more decades before we forget what a steering wheel is ...)

I’m happy to not only be an EV owner, but also to play a small part in documenting the rise of electric vehicles. SelectEV.tech is built to compare all EVs in Australia. Please let me know if I’ve missed anything, or gotten a detail wrong. Also check out the statistics area for graphs on exactly how this transition is progressing.

This site is very much in beta, and you may find errors and problems that I am still working out. If you find a particular bug, please let me know and I’ll do my best to fix it up ASAP.

Drop a comment on any of the pages and let me know about your own EV journey.

Buckle up for the next few years as Australia transitions to being fully EV. It may be a bumpy ride, but also guaranteed to be a lot of fun.
