SelectEV - Compare Electric Vehicles

Frequently Asked Questions

1 · Which EVs make it onto SelectEV?

The index is for brand‑new, road‑legal electric vehicles that you can actually buy in Australia today. Future models and concepts are great talking points—we discuss them in the Amped Forum—but they don’t appear in the index until retail deliveries begin.

2 · Where do your prices and specs come from?

Mostly straight from the source: public dealer and manufacturer websites, press releases and ADR filings. We refresh pricing and key specs every month (or sooner if a maker announces a change). Spot something that looks out‑of‑date? Drop a note on the vehicle’s detail page and we’ll verify.

3 · Why is the “real‑world” range different from the WLTP/ADR figure?

The lab cycles assume mild weather, modest speeds and no accessories. Real life means hills, heaters, air‑con and the occasional right foot. We show both numbers so you can plan for the optimistic headline and the school‑run reality.

4 · Do you list second‑hand or demo EVs?

No—SelectEV focuses on new‑car data. Pre‑owned bargains are a topic for the forum classifieds or sites like Carsales.

5 · Does towing really halve an EV’s range, and do you track that?

Physics is a harsh critic: a boxy caravan at highway speed can chop 40‑60 % off. Where manufacturers publish an official “towing range” we include it; otherwise we show the rated towing capacity and flag range penalty estimates in our notes.

6 · Why don’t all models list V2L or V2G capabilities?

Only vehicles whose onboard electronics officially support vehicle‑to‑load (powering appliances) or vehicle‑to‑grid (feeding your home/grid) get the tick. If the spec sheet is silent—or the feature is “coming in a future update”—we leave it blank.

7 · Do you note over‑the‑air software updates?

Yes. In the “Features” column you’ll see OTA updates if the maker can push firmware that improves range, adds features or fixes bugs without a service‑centre visit.

8 · Can I sign up for alerts when a new model or price drop lands?

Not yet. A notification system is on the roadmap—until then, the forum announcement thread is the best way to stay in the loop.

9 · I work for a manufacturer/dealer—how do I submit corrections or images?

Please reach out via the Contact Us form with official spec sheets or press images and we’ll update the listing promptly.

10 · Is there a mobile app or public API?

Not for now. We’re focused on polishing the web experience first—but we’re logging the demand.

11 · How is SelectEV funded, and will it stay free?

It’s a self‑funded passion project by one Australian EV enthusiast.

12 · Are you affiliated with any car brand or activist group?

No. Opinions are my own; data is as neutral as I can make it.

13 · “EVs will burn your house down / ruin weekends / explode!”

You might feel more at home on certain talk‑shows. When you’re ready for measured data, we’ll still be here.
